Freie Szene Tage - The Days of the Independent Performing Arts Community in Berlin
September 10 to 21, 2025
Berlin’s independent performing arts community is as large and diverse as the German capital itself. With this in mind, it is high time to take a deep dive into the community and become (re) acquainted with people and places in this vibrant scene!
From September 10 to 21 SPIELRAUM will provide opportunities for getting to know the independent performing arts community from other perspectives – with events that invite the audience to get to know the artists, to participate and to engage in shared reflection alongside the art that is taking place on stage. A wide variety of different formats will open up new perspectives both on the art itself as well as upon the locations of the independent performing arts community as places for exchanges and places that hold within them the power of societal transformation. In doing so, SPIELRAUM also builds bridges between unusual performance venues such as neighborhood centers, punk clubs and shopping centers.
SPIELRAUM is not a curated festival: instead, it features a schedule of programming consisting of audience and community formats that has been created together with the community itself. This year’s highlights include, amongst others: a theater workshop in a neighborhood center, an open house day with a circus jam, tours of performance venues, open rehearsals followed by discussions, a pot luck meeting format, a forum theater production, a multisensory piece for visually impaired children, a variety of dance and movement workshops, a gym that has been transformed into a theater and an open air music happening.
The opening will take place on September 10, 2025 at Globe Berlin.
